What We Do

The Resource & eMpowerment Technical Assistance Center for Behavioral Health (RMTAC) supports behavioral healthcare providers by offering technical assistance, resources, and coaching sessions to better equip individuals and organizations as they serve refugees and migrants.

RMTAC focuses on the following:

  • Conducting Needs Assessments 🔗
The insights gained from these surveys will empower our team to create content focused on the specialized needs of the population’s providers serve.

  • Completing a Literature Review
By reviewing current literature, we learned about the behavioral health needs of refugee and migrant populations in the United States. This literature review educates the RMTAC Team on current behavioral health trends and best practices for serving this population.

  • Creating Interactive Online Learning Modules 🔗
Interactive Online Learning Modules inform behavioral health professionals on best practices to work with refugees and newcomers. This platform is based on the input from the needs assessment and literature review to inform on learning topics such as trauma informed care, cultural competency and legal rights and responsibilities.

  • Establishing Learning Communities 🔗
RMTAC hosts cohorts to attend highly interactive, multi-session virtual events that bring together professionals with expertise on behavioral healthcare for refugees and migrants. These communities will bring together subject matter experts to provide tailored content and discussion to foster sharing and build relationships.

  • Services Directory 🔗
The Services Directory on this website provides a comprehensive and interactive list of resources such as behavioral health clinics, legal support, social services, and more. The directory has over 12,000 national and community-based agencies divided into each state and territory.

  • Consultation & Technical Assistance Services 🔗
Through Consultation and Technical Assistance Requests, RMTAC provides targeted support to professionals and organizations that work with refugee and migrant people. The CTA Requests cover topics such as coaching sessions for staff, educating staff on trauma informed care and helping providers explain to patients how to understand their diagnosis.
